London, UK – July 14, 2025

A private jet caught fire and crashed shortly after taking off from London Southend Airport on Sunday afternoon. At least two people died in the incident, and it has sent shockwaves through the Essex community.

What Went Down at Southend Airport?

The B200 twin engine was scheduled to take off at 4:05 PM local time for a medical transport flight to the Netherlands with a crew from Dutch firm Zeusch Medivac Aviation.

As the plane was taking off, witnesses saw the aircraft take a steep climb before it banked and nosedived into the area with grass beyond the runway. The crash caused a massive fireball that was visible for miles with smoke rising thick and black into the sky.

“It was horrific — the plane flipped and then there was just fire everywhere,” described one golfer at the Southend Golf Club.

Response Teams & Casualties

Arriving within minutes of the incident, paramedics, police officers, and the Essex Fire and Rescue Service were quick to set up a perimeter around the crash site.

The Essex Police Department confirmed that two crew members died at the scene. It still remains unclear whether there were additional passengers aboard the plane as authorities continue their investigation.

As a precaution, all nearby facilities such as the rugby club and the golf course were evacuated.

Suspended Flights, Investigation Underway

All flight activities at London Southend Airport were suspended until further notice while the site was assessed for additional fetches of debris.

UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has fully commenced an inquiry on the crash. While initial speculation points to a likely mechanical failure, there’s no conclusive determination yet.

MP David Burton‑Sampson of Southend West appeared in the meeting extending condolences and claimed that it is “a tragedy for our community”. He also praised the first responders for their rapid response.
